Observed from Spitsbergen the altitude of the Sun is only 10-11 degrees during the main part of the eclipse. Since there are relatively high mountains close to Longyearbyen, it will not be possible to watch the eclipse everywhere. But in particular from the areas between the museum and the sea the view will be magnificent.

Spectacular surroundings! The location of the recommended observing site is just to the right of the building with the flat roof in the middle of the picture.

During the totality the Sun will be situated between these mountain peaks.

The best area for observations of this eclipse is probably to the right of the building in the left corner of the picture.

Towards the end of the final partial phase the Sun is situated closer to the larger mountain peak.
